Move from FamilyAlbum to Looly, with the comments still attached

What do I need before starting?

You need an administrator account in the destination Looly circle and an active FamilyAlbum browser invitation with its password. Use only an album you are authorized to access and copy. Do not share the invitation publicly or send its password in a support screenshot.

How do I import the album?

The preview is a checkpoint: starting a check and confirming an import are separate actions.

1. In FamilyAlbum, create or locate the invitation for browser viewing and keep its password available.
2. In Looly, open the destination circle’s settings and the FamilyAlbum import section.
3. Paste the browser invitation link and password, then check the album.
4. Review the listed people. Map yourself and existing members correctly; other names can remain placeholders until those people join.
5. Confirm the import and follow its progress. Check photos, videos, dates and comments after it completes.
6. Invite your family to the Looly circle. Keep the source album and original files until you are satisfied with the result.

Will relatives get messages during the import?

Imported names can appear as placeholders so comments keep their attribution. A placeholder is not an invitation and is not emailed. Relatives join through a separate invitation and sign-in flow. Review the member mapping carefully; similar names are not proof of the same person.

Will my imported photos be original quality?

Only if the source file available to the importer is itself the original. Looly retains the received file, but cannot restore detail lost earlier. The iOS originals-matching flow can help match imported memories with files still in your photo library. Review matches and keep an independent backup.

What if FamilyAlbum changes or the import fails?

The importer is unofficial. It uses downloads available through your browser invitation. FamilyAlbum may change its site at any time. If a source changes or an import cannot finish, keep the original album and check the status in Looly; contact support with the error message, not your password.

FamilyAlbum’s official Premium page lists bulk downloading as a Family Pro feature in the app, limited to items you can download. That is a separate route for saving copies yourself. Check the current plan and your permissions before buying anything just to export.

Can I request a copy directly from the provider?

You can contact FamilyAlbum through its current support or privacy contact and ask which export options apply to your account. The neutral request below avoids promising a legal entitlement for every kind of data or account.

Suggested request: “I would like a downloadable copy of the photos, videos and associated dates and comments in my family album. Please tell me which export options are available for my account, what the download contains, and how long any download links remain valid. I can verify my identity through your secure process.”
